West Oahu scored seven runs in the fifth inning followed by five more in the sixth inning as the CaneFires defeated the visiting North Shore Honu, 12-2, this afternoon at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. The CaneFires (10-19-1) racked up eight hits, but were aided by three North Shore miscues which led to six unearned runs.
Joshua Bell and Ryan Rogowski-both Los Angeles Dodgers prospects-each slammed a three-run home run in support of West Oahu. Teammates Anthony Hatch and Chad Tracy each added a double and two RBIs in the romp.
CaneFires reliever Keisaku Itokazu (3.13 ERA) improved to 4-1 on the season after allowing one hit and no runs through two innings in relief of starter Steve Johnson.
Brad Corley paced the Honu hitters, going 2-4 with a double and two RBIs in defeat. North Shore (20-10) starter Shinya Nakayama (3.57 ERA) fell to 5-2 on the season, surrendering five runs on four hits through 4 1/3 innings while striking out six.
Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at noon (Hawaii time) for the finale of the three-game set.
