CaneFires engulf Sharks in shutout
November 12, 2007 - Hawaii Winter Baseball 2 (HWB 2)
West Oahu CaneFires News Release
Fumikazu Kimura tossed five scoreless innings and gave way to former Castle High School hurler Reid Santos who proceeded to shut the door as the West Oahu CaneFires blanked the Honolulu Sharks, 3-0, tonight in a seven inning game before 858 in attendance at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. Kimura surrendered four hits and struck out three as the Seibu Lions prospect improved to 1-2 on the season, while Santos lowered his ERA to 3.32, and earned his second save.
Anthony Hatch fueled the CaneFires (11-20-2) at the dish, notching three hits including a two-run home run in the third inning to get West Oahu on the board. Honolulu starter Jimmy James (2-3, 3.69 ERA) balked in Kenley Jansen from third base to put West Oahu up 3-0 in the fifth inning, and the lead would not change hands.
Four Sharks (15-16-2) hitters each notched one of the squad's four hits on the evening, all of which were singles.
Both squads have tomorrow off, and then play six straight games (Tues. through Sun.) leading up to the league championship game on Nov. 19 between the North Shore Honu and either the Waikiki BeachBoys or Honolulu Sharks.
