Texas Marshals News Release

The Texas Marshals dropped their sixth straight game on Saturday night as the Acadiana Cane Cutters won a 3-1 decision in Lafayette, Louisiana. Jonathan Lycan took the loss for the Marshals, despite pitching well. Lycan tossed seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

Cane Cutters first baseman Taylor Walker helped the Cane Cutters jump out to a 2-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI groundout in the third.

The Marshals made it 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning as Mason Mantle singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Raglin. Mantle continued onto third as no one was covering the base. The throw from the first baseman to third was off mark allowing Mantle to come into score.

Brandon Texiera came on in relief of Lycan in the eighth inning and allowed run on a sacrifice fly by James Ziegler to give the Cane Cutters an insurance run and extend their lead to 3-1.

Scott Ashford tossed a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save for the Cane Cutters.

With the loss, the Marshals fall to 3-12 on the season. The Cane Cutters improve to 10-5 with the win. The two teams will meet again on Sunday night for game two of the two-game series in Lafayette at 7:00pm.
