Your Acadiana Cane Cutters fell just short tonight after a valiant effort against the Victoria Generals. Still the first place team is the Cane Cutters as they move to 7-2 as the Generals are now 2-6.
Darien Simms singled in the third inning and soon after Pedro Barrios singled to score the first run of the game. The Generals added another run in fourth inning to make the score 2-0.
Struggling early to get hits, off the starter for the Generals Stuart Springer, the Cane Cutters showed some life. To start the sixth Braedon Barrett, 1-3 on the night with 1 run scored, got a hold of a pitch and drove a low line drive past the pitcher into center field. The play was not over after he advanced to second off a wild throw. Barrett would then come around to score the only run for the Cane Cutters as the Generals now had a 2-1 lead.
Not much else occurred as the bats did not get hot as the Cane Cutters totaled 3 hits to the Generals 8.
The starting pitchers entertained the fans as Jared Taylor got the call for the Cane Cutters. Taylor had a solid start, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing 7 hits while also allowing 2 runs. Taylor will get the loss as the winning pitcher for the General was Stuart Springer who pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 3 hits with 5 strikeouts.
The bullpen was able to get in work tonight as making his first appearance was Michael Hanchar. Hanchar made his first appearance of the season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. In his appearance he pitched 1 inning as he totaled 3 strikeouts.
Your Cane Cutters will be in action as they hit the road June 9th to face the Woodland Strykers and then go on to play the Brazos Valley Bombers the 11th and 12th. Games can be viewed on U-Stream by going to the Cane Cutters website www.canecuttersbaseball.com. Next home game for the team will be June 13th against the Texas Marshalls. The 13th is Military Appreciation Night. Come out and support the troops as your first place Cane Cutters continue playing exciting baseball.
