Cane Cutters Name Players of the Week

The Cane Cutters finished their 4 game road series 3-1 before they returned to Fabacher Field for a two-game series against the Victoria Generals where each team recorded a win. The team started off the away series against the Texas Marshals in a double header in which the team swept the Marshals. The first game was a close one, with the score tied at 6-6 going into the final inning before the Cane Cutters came back and scored one run to get the win. The second game was a 7-inning game where the Cane Cutters won 7-2 with Trent Giambrone having two homeruns for the Cane Cutters. In their first game of the two game series against the East Texas Pump Jacks, the Cane Cutters were explosive on offense and won the game 17-6. The final game of the away series ended in a 2-1 loss to the Pump Jacks. The Cane Cutters returned to Fabacher Field for a two game series starting Saturday night against the Texas Marshals and won game one in a 10-inning thriller after Connor Barron drove in the winning run in the 10th inning for a score of 5-4. The final game of the series ended with a 6-3 loss to the Generals and the Cane Cutters are currently tied for second with the Generals, each team is 2.5 games behind the Brazos Valley Bombers.

The PowerAde Player of the Week was awarded to Connor Barron, from Southern Mississippi, the hero of the battle from behind win over the Victoria Generals on Saturday night. After going back and forth with runs, the Generals tied the game in the top of the 9th inning at 4 all. Barron hit a single in the bottom of the 10th, which sent Trey Hicks home to give the Cane Cutters the win. After 6 games, Connor led the team with 14 hits and recorded a .500 batting average and scored 7 runs, 3 RBIs, 1 double and seven stolen bases. He also recorded a .533 on base percentage and a .536 slugging average. In the huge offensive effort against the Pump Jacks where the team won 17-6, Connor was 2-5 and scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. Despite the loss to the East Texas Pump Jacks on Friday night, Barron had a good game on Friday where he went 2-4 at the plate as the leadoff hitter. In the 6-3 loss against the Generals on Sunday night, Barron again had a good night of hitting and went 3-5 for the night. Barron has played in 18 games for the Cane Cutters to date. He currently leads the team in runs, hits, and is 1 stolen base ahead teammate Trent Giambrone. Connor also leads the team in batting averages with a .347 average.

This weeks PowerAde Pitcher of the Week is Jake Brumfield, from Pearl River Junior College. Jake started the game for the Cane Cutters and pitched 6 innings. Brumfield was remarkable through six innings where he allowed only 1 run and 5 hits. He also recorded 6 strikeouts before being relieved by Hayden Guidry, just signed from ULL. Jake finished the night with a 1.50 ERA and a .227 BAA. Brumfield has played in 5 games for the Cane Cutters and started in 3 games to date, pitching 22 innings. To date, he has struck out 22 opponents (in which he leads the team) and has a 1-1 record for the Cane Cutters with a 2.45 ERA.

The Cane Cutters will face the first place Brazos Valley Bombers tomorrow and Wednesday at Fabacher Field, gates will open at 6:00 and the game will start at 7:00.
