Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

Lafayette, La. - The Acadiana Cane Cutters lose a close game in Baton Rouge 4-5 to bring their overall record to 16-14. Acadiana had a great defensive outing for most of the night giving up no runs from the 2nd inning to the 7th inning, but just came up short in the end. The Cane Cutters will be back home tomorrow night at Fabacher Field to take on the Amarillo Sod Squad.

The Cane Cutters had 11 total strikeouts on the night with Andrew Cossio (Northwestern State) racking up 6 of them in 3.2 innings. Jacob Lamkin (UNO) was able to get 3 strikeouts in 3 innings while also not giving up a run in his debut with the Cane Cutters in 2021. Look for Acadiana to build off of these defensive efforts into their game tomorrow night against the Sod Squad.

While Acadiana played well defensively tonight, the Cane Cutters also had success hitting the ball as well. Ethan Lege (Delgado) and Jack Schell (Lamar University) each had 2 hits with 1 run earned on the night. Jerrett McDonald (DBU) and Will Veillion (UL) were each able to hit a triple tonight in Baton Rouge. Each of them was able to score a run as well with Veillion tacking on 2 RBIs on the night. The Cane Cutters were also able to show off some speed by stealing a whopping 5 bases against the Rougarou.

The Cane Cutters will be back at home for a 2-game homestand against the Amarillo Sod Squad tomorrow and Saturday. Acadiana will be celebrating Healthcare Hero Night powered by Ochsner Lafayette General tomorrow. All healthcare workers will get into the game for free this night!

The Acadiana Cane Cutters will play again at home at Fabacher Field on July 23rd to play against the Amarillo Sod Squad on Healthcare Hero Night powered by Ochsner Lafayette General.
