Lafayette, La. - The Acadiana Cane Cutters beat the Victoria Generals 5-3 at home at Fabacher Field. This brings the Cane Cutters' record to 16-13, which keeps them in 2nd place in the TCL. It was a game with a good bit of hitting as the Cane Cutters had 12 hits on the night and the Generals had 8. Acadiana will travel to Baton Rouge tomorrow to take on the Rougarou as they look to hold on to their 2nd place standing.
The Cane Cutters got plenty of hits on the night with 6 different Cane Cutters getting on base tonight. Caleb Hill (Nicholls State) scored 2 runs off of 2 hits and 1 double. Ethan Lege (Delgado) was also able to earn 2 runs on 2 hits while adding an RBI as well. Jack Schell (Lamar University) had 3 hits with 1 RBI on the night with a batting average of .414. Michael Latulas (Southern Miss) had a great outing as well with 1 run earned and 1 RBI on 2 hits. If Acadiana can continue their hot streak at the plate, they will be well-suited to hold on to their 2nd place standing.
The Cane Cutters were able to get it done on the mound tonight as well by only giving up 3 runs on the night. Beau Hebert (Louisiana College) pitched the majority of the night with 4 innings pitched and had 4 strikeouts on the night. Patrick Lee (William Carey University) pitched 2 innings and added 3 strikeouts to the stats sheet. Lee also did not allow a single hit. Cy Fontenot (UNO) pitched 2 innings as well and was able to strike out 5 Generals.
The Cane Cutters will make a short trip to Baton Rouge tomorrow to face off against their fellow Louisiana team, the Rougarou. Acadiana will be back at Fabacher Field on July 23rd for Healthcare Hero Night powered by Ochsner Lafayette General. All healthcare workers will get into the game for free this night!
