Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
Another great win for your Cane Cutters as they defeated the Victoria Generals 6-0. Taking the two game series, the Cane Cutters continued their early season success.
On the mound for the Cane Cutters was Cord Cokrell, 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, who helped the now 2-0 Cane Cutters continue their strong start. The winning pitcher and Blue Sky Innovations player of the game, Cokrell had a strong outing on the mound as he pitched a complete game shutout. In 9 innings worked, he dominated the General's hitters all night allowing only four hits, on no runs allowed while striking out four.
The game was even until an offensive onslaught from the team in the bottom of the fourth. Taylor Braley, 2-4 on the night with a run scored, started the scoring run with a double. Next up was Adam Yacek who had a single that advanced Braley to third.
With runners on the corners next up was James Ziegler, who drove in the first run of the night with a RBI single. In one swing, off of designated hitter Connor Short's bat, 2 more runs crossed the plate leading to a 3-0 lead.
The Cane Cutters were not done yet as the bats stayed hot.
After many pitching changes by the Generals during the fourth the Cane Cutters managed to score even more runs as their run total in the inning alone was six.
Active on the base paths, the Cane Cutters finished the evening with three stolen bases; one each from Jacob Seward, Braedon Barret, and Daniel Keating. Seward added onto his stolen base going 1-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.
Cokrell continued to pitch an outstanding outing as he was impossible to hit throughout the rest of the game.
Due to the impressive offensive showing from the Cane Cutters, the losing pitcher Ryan Williams, 0-1 with a 16.20 ERA, was pulled in the fourth inning.
The Generals look to put the rough opening roundtrip behind them before they face the Cane Cutters, again, in another two game series, on June 6th and 7th.
The Cane Cutters continue to look to build onto their success with their first road trip as they face the Texas Marshalls starting Saturday May, 30th and 31st. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
