Vancouver Canadians News Release

(County Stadium - Yakima, WA) - Canadians RHP Taylor Cole walked off to a standing ovation in Yakima, WA after going 7 2/3 no-hit innings to help Vancouver to a key 7-1 victory over the Bears on Thursday night to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Vancouver opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when LF Matt Newman tripled off of Yakima starter LHP Daniel Watts before coming in to score on a sacrifice fly from 2B Christian Lopes giving the Canadians a 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold up until the top of the 8th inning when the C's managed a trio of runs that including DH Art Charles hitting his 7th home run of the summer off of Bears reliever RHP Austin Platt to help put Vancouver up by four.

From there, the story was RHP Taylor Cole who went into the 8th inning with a no-hitter before being pulled by Canadians manager Clayton McCullough due to a high pitch count. Cole's 7 2/3 innings was enough to give him the Northwest League ERA title as he improved to 6-0 with a 0.81 ERA to finish up his regular season.

Canadians reliever LHP Griffin Murphy would come in and get C Ronnie Freeman who flew out to right field to send the no-hitter into the 9th inning.

Vancouver would tack on three more runs which included a triple from LF Matt Newman, his 2nd of the night that scored 1B Balbino Fuenmayor to give the Canadians a 7-0 lead.

The no-hitter would last but two pitches into the bottom of the 9th inning as RHP Griffin Murphy gave up a double to 1B Wagner Mateo who would come around to score on a double off the bat of SS Kevin Medrano making the final 7-1 Vancouver.
