Published on February 5, 2015 under North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
NEW YORK (February 5, 2015) - The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) announced Thursday the format and schedule for the 2015 Amway Canadian Championship, which will involve a pair of North American Soccer League (NASL) clubs, FC Edmonton and Ottawa Fury FC.
The Amway Canadian Championship is an annual tournament that features clubs from both the NASL and Major League Soccer (MLS). The winner of the 2015 tournament will earn an automatic berth into the 2016-2017 CONCACAF Champions League.
"The Amway Canadian Championship is a very important competition for our Canadian clubs," said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. "Our goal is to see one of our clubs win the tournament and advance to the CONCACAF Champions League."
In order to coexist with the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada as well as the CONCACAF Gold Cup competition, the tournament will begin play in April and conclude in August.
FC Edmonton and Ottawa Fury FC will play each other in a two-leg preliminary round, beginning on April 22. The winner will meet Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a two-leg semifinal round, which will start on May 6.
