Can-Am League set with eight for 2008

The Canadian American League is set with eight teams for the 2008 season. At the completion of the annual meeting, the Board of Directors announced that the following teams that will operate for the 2008 season: Atlantic City Surf, Brockton Rox, Grays (traveling team), Nashua Pride, New Jersey Jackals, Les Capitales de Québec, Sussex Skyhawks and Worcester Tornadoes. The North Shore Spirit and the New Haven County Cutters will not operate.

The league will again play a 94 game season, starting May 22 and ending September 1. The league will play a split season with the second half starting on July 14. There will be two, best-of-five playoff series starting September 3, with the winners of each half meeting the two teams with the next-best overall records.

"We are excited about the potential for the 2008 season," commented Can-Am League Commissioner Miles Wolff. "We are disappointed that North Shore and New Haven will not be part of the league, but the remaining teams are in strong markets with outstanding ownership groups, and the future of the league is bright. We are looking at expansion for the 2009 season and have some outstanding potential markets in our sights."

A meeting of all independent league presidents and commissioners will be held in Charleston, SC, on November 5-6 in conjunction with the Mike Veeck Promotional Seminar. As part of those meetings, Can-Am League general managers will hold their annual meeting on November 6.
