Can-Am League Recaps

June 25, 2013 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

New Jersey 5, Rockland 2

New Jersey starter Jon Lucas (3-0) allowed just one hit, one walk and an unearned run through six innings, and his bullpen backed him up. New Jersey pitching held the Boulders to five hits in a 5-2 win. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Jackals' CF Chris Curran drove in LF Gaetano Giunta with an RBI double. Boulders' starter Pat Moran went seven innings, letting up two earned runs and striking out six in the loss.

The Boulders knotted the score at one in the top of the sixth, but New Jersey tacked on two more in the bottom half to take the lead for good. RF Bryan Sabatella lined an RBI single to right field and reached third base on a throwing error. Sabatella would score on a wild pitch to give the Jackals a 3-1 lead.

Rockland challenged in the seventh with SS Nick DelGuidice's RBI single, but a two-run eighth inning for the Jackals paved the way for closer Keith Cantwell's ninth save of the season.

Trois-Rivieres 4, Quebec 1

Trois-Rivieres DH Drew Miller drove in RF Jeremy Nowak with a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth, and the Aigles rallied for two more in the inning to beat Quebec 4-1. Miller finished with a game-high three hits, and C Emerson Frostad capped the three-run eighth with a two-RBI single to bring home Miller and 3B Cam Kneeland. Aigles' starter Garrett Bullock wound up with a no-decision, despite pitching seven innings of scoreless ball. RHP Matt McDonald entered in the eighth and picked up his first win of the season in his 12th appearance. Closer Nick Sarianides sat the Capitales down in order in the ninth to earn his fourth save.
