Published on January 19, 2013 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham, N.C. - With the third World Baseball Classic taking place at sites throughout North America and Asia March 2-17, four current or former Can-Am League players are on the rosters of the Canadian and Italian teams.
Italy qualified for the 2013 tournament automatically, while Canada reached the WBC by winning its preliminary round pool games in September.
Both teams have been placed in Pool D, with their first-round games in Phoenix. They will face each other on Friday, March 8 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, the spring-training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.
Italy defeated Canada, 6-2, when they met in the prior World Baseball Classic on March 9, 2009.
Per WBC rules, for players to be eligible for a team, they must either be citizens of the country, or have at least one parent who is a citizen of that country.
