Trois-Rivieres 3, Sussex County 2 (Game 1 - 7 Innings) - Box Score
In game one of a doubleheader, 1B Juan Kelly's single in the third inning gave Trois-Rivieres a 3-1 lead and that proved to be enough for the Aigles as they defeated Sussex County, 3-2.
Trois-Rivieres jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a ground rule double by 3B Taylor Brennan and a sacrifice fly by Kelly. The Miners answered with a run of their own in the second as C Gavin Stupienski picked-up a base hit and scored 3B Nate Coronado from second base. The Aigles then responded with the big hit of the game in the third as Kelly singled home LF Alberth Martinez to make it a 3-1 score. The Miners notched a run in the fourth but that is all they would get for the rest of the contest.
Brennan went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Kelly had a hit in two at-bats along with a pair of RBIs.
Trois-Rivieres starting pitcher Kevin McNorton tossed six solid innings and grabbed his eighth win of the season. McNorton gave up two earned runs on nine hits and struck out three batters.
For the Miners in the loss, RF Brandon Downes went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Trois-Rivieres 7, Sussex County 1 (Game 2 - 7 Innings) - Box Score
Trois-Rivieres completed the doubleheader sweep of Sussex County as they downed the Miners by a 7-1 score. The win by the Aigles was their fourth straight and have now closed to within 2 ½ games of the Miners in the Can-Am League standings.
Third baseman Tucker Nathans led the way offensively for Trois-Rivieres going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Aigles 1B Juan Kelly tallied two runs in a 1-for-2 night while leadoff hitter David Glaude blasted his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning.
Trois-Rivieres starter Garrett Harris threw five terrific innings of work and earned the victory. The righty gave up an earned run on four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Harris is now 8-1 on the year with the win.
Center fielder Mikey Reynolds launched a solo home run in the first inning for Sussex County to account for their only run.
New Jersey 9, Ottawa 3 - Box Score
New Jersey jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings of play and would coast from there to beat Ottawa by the final of 9-3. The win by the Jackals was their fourth straight.
There were 11 hits collected by New Jersey in the contest with SS Santiago Chirino leading the way going for 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Jackals C Jason Agresti plated a pair of runs in a 3-for-4 night while 3B Conrad Gregor and CF David Harris each collected a hit and two RBIs.
New Jersey starting pitcher Brendan Butler allowed one earned run over seven innings of work and earned the victory. The righty allowed three hits and four walks to go along with seven punchouts. With the win, Butler improved his mark to 4-2 on the season.
Catcher Andy Mocahbee had a 1-for-2 night with two runs scored in the loss for the Champions.
Rockland 4, Quebec 1 - Box Score
Rockland tallied three runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-0 lead and would go on from there to down Quebec, 4-1.
The Boulders collected 12 hits in the contest with every batter in their lineup picking up at least one. Rockland C Blake Grant-Parks led the way going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Boulders 1B Matt Oberste had three hits in four official at-bats along with a run scored while LF Grant Heyman launched his ninth home run of the season and went 1-for-4.
Rockland starter Jake Zokan tossed five shutout innings and picked-up his second win of 2019. Zokan allowed two hits and two walks while fanning five batters.
For the Capitales, RF Rian Kiniry went 1-for-3 and plated the team's lone run.
