Sussex County 5, Quebec 1
Sussex County scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and beat Quebec by the score of 5-1. With the win, the Miners increased their lead in the Can-Am League to 7.5 games.
The Miners had eight hits in the contest with seven of the nine batters in the lineup collecting at least one. Sussex County 3B Martin Figueroa went 2-for-5 with two runs scored while leadoff hitter Breland Almadova walked twice and scored a run in a 1-for-3 night. Center fielder Jayce Ray also chipped in a two-run home run in the pivotal seventh inning for the Miners.
Sussex County pitcher Kevin Grendell threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to notch the victory. Grendell allowed a hit and two walks while striking out three batters. The southpaw is now 4-1 on the year.
Tonight, during the seventh inning, Figueroa stole second base and gave the Miners the league record for most stolen bases in a season (164). This broke their own mark of 163 from just a season ago.
Rockland 8, New Jersey 2
The Rockland Boulders scored six runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-0 lead and would go on to defeat New Jersey by the score of 8-2.
After two scoreless innings to start off the contest, Rockland plated a pair of runs in the third on a two-run home run from leadoff hitter SS JC Rodriguez. The Boulders broke the game open in the fifth with the six runs highlighted by a two-run triple from DH Marcus Nidiffer and a two-run blast from 2B Cody Regis. The Jackals picked-up their two runs in the seventh on the CF David Harris two-run home run.
Rockland starting pitcher Brian Ernst tossed seven solid innings to earn the victory. Ernst allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out five batters. The righty is now 1-1 on the season.
Ottawa 7, Trois-Rivieres 0
Starting pitcher Jake Hale and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as Ottawa downed Trois-Rivieres, 7-0.
Hale went the first seven innings of the contest allowing a pair of walks and the four hits while striking out seven in 97 pitches. The bullpen duo of James Jones and Andrew Cooper each tossed a scoreless inning with Jones notching two strikeouts. Hale picked-up the win and is now 6-4 on the year.
The Champions pounded out 13 hits in the contest with the 1-2 hitters of CF Chase Harris and SS Daniel Bick leading the way. Harris and Bick combined to go 7-for-10 at the plate with five runs scored and two RBIs. Ottawa RF Steve Brown also chipped in two hits in five at-bats and drove in three runs.
