Can-Am League Game Recaps

Published on August 19, 2015 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Rockland 3, Sussex County 1

The Rockland pitching staff had a great outing and led the Boulders to a 3-1 win over the Sussex County Miners. After Alex Gouin's strong outing, in which he went seven innings with just one earned run allowed, Shawn Gilblair tossed a perfect eighth inning. Luis Sanz came in for the save and did just that. Sussex County was only able to score once, in the second inning, from a sacrifice fly scoring DH Kenny Bryant. 3B Devin Thaut led the Miners with three hits.

Rockland scored its first run from LF Stephen Cardullo's solo shot in the first inning. An error after DH Alex DeBellis' single scored two more in the seventh. Cardullo led the Boulders at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Trois-Rivieres 3, Winnipeg 2

A late fielder's choice run nudged the Trois-Rivieres Aigles into the lead and the 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. With the score knotted at two in the eighth inning, 2B Jose Cuevas hit into a fielder's choice that scored SS Pedro Lopez for the Aigles. The game actually started out with each team scoring twice in the first inning, but then great pitching on both sides showed up. LF Adam Heisler led the Goldeyes with two hits.

Trois-Rivieres' Charles Gillies pitched seven innings and allowed just two runs, while Winnipeg's Anthony Smith went six innings with just one earned run allowed. Edilson Alvarez pitched a perfect eighth inning for the Aigles and got the win. Kaohi Downing got the save after striking out the side in the ninth.

Quebec 17, Garden State 7

The Quebec Capitales thumped the Garden State Grays 17-7 with solid hitting up and down the lineup. 2B Tyler Young got things started for Quebec with a two-run triple in the third inning. In the seventh, LF Will Walsh took one out of the park. RF Alexei Bell led Quebec with three RBIs, and four others had multiple RBIs. Young, CF Yuniesky Gurriel and 1B Josue Peley each had three runs. Only one of the 11 Capitales who went to the plate didn't record a hit.

Garden State still had a few good highlights at the plate despite its pitching and defensive shortcomings. 3B Luis Gonzalez hit a two-run double in the first inning. Then in the third, 1B Vincent Guglietti hit a two-run homer, and Gonzalez hit a two-run shot of his own in the eighth.
