Can-Am League Game Recaps

August 28, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Quebec 5, Lincoln 4

Trailing, 4-3, entering the ninth inning, Quebec was faced with a put up or shut up moment. The Capitales chose the former, and after a walk and a Jonathan Malo double tied the score, CF Sebastien Boucher singled in Malo to give Quebec a 5-4, walkoff victory. The Capitales trailed from the outset against Lincoln on Tuesday, with the Saltdogs pushing across four runs over the first two innings. But there was no quit in Quebec, as three seventh-inning runs pulled the home team within striking distance and set up the dramatic final frame. Malo, whose ninth-inning double was his 23rd of the year, scored twice while tying Saltdogs 1B Jimmy Rohan for the game high in hits with three.

Newark 11, New Jersey 9

The Bears scored seven runs in the sixth inning to tie the Jackals at nine runs, with a run apiece in the eighth and ninth innings giving Newark an 11-9 win. Bears 2B Juan Martinez hit his seventh home run of the year while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Newark CF James Roche had three hits, including the go-ahead single in the eighth inning. But Roche was outdone at the plate by teammate DAngelo Jimenez, who went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. The Jackals led by as many as seven runs, scoring nine in the first five innings. But the seven-run Newark sixth undid that effort and gave the visitors the momentum they needed to win the game. Jackals CF Chris Curran went 4-for-5, scored twice and drove in a run while helping New Jersey build its early lead.

Rockland 8, Worcester 5

Boulders 2B Ryan Mollica hit his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot that broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth inning and put Rockland on top for good. The Boulders won the game, 8-5. Mollica went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI on the night. The Tornadoes got a three-run eighth-inning home run from 1B Michael Gedman to cut Rockland's six-run lead in half. But the Boulders shut down the Worcester lineup in the ninth to hold on for the victory. Rockland reliever Adrian Martin allowed one hit in the ninth inning with one strikeout to pick up his 17th save of the season. Martin, who is sporting a 1.37 ERA, also has six wins in 2012.
