Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm concluded its first practice sessions early this afternoon to kick-off camp for the 2010 season. The players arrived at Skyway Park (Tampa) to perfect weather conditions as the temperature was a cool 70 degrees and breezy. Only in shorts and practice uniforms, the team ran through warm ups and position drills before beginning to install the parts of the offense in session I.
All of the players were excited to get out on the field and knock the rust off. "It feels good to be out here on the field again," said offensive lineman Emmanuel Akah. "This is great to get out and throw and run at full speed, to get and feel for what we have," added quarterback BJ Hall.
The first session was not a crisp as the coaches wanted. "We are going to have to bear down and clean things up as we head into the second session," said head coach Tim Marcum after the end of the first session. Despite some slips, fumbled snaps and a scuffle, the first session ran smoothly.
Recently acquired linebacker Eric Ortiz looked sharp at the Jack linebacker position and wide receiver Tyrone Timmons came up with some aerobatic catches. Quarterback Brett Dietz took the majority of the snaps as he looked to get into rhythm with his wide receiving corp.
The second session was sharper than the first as the team installed more run and pass plays. The day ended with Marcum conducting 40-yard gassers to push the players to their limit before breaking for lunch and heading back to the St. Pete Times Forum for classroom sessions.
