Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Shreveport, LA - Alex Camarre had not played a game since September. Since then he has sat and watched. On Saturday, he was ready to start and he backstopped the Jackalopes to a 5-4 shootout victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs.
The Jackalopes fell behind early to the Bugs 1-0 in the first period but rallied to tie the game 1-1 off of James Crossman's goal on the power play. Odessa would add two more goals by John Serafin, his first as a Jackalope, and Carl Skarstrom.
Though they trailed 3-1 the Mudbugs fought back and scored two power-play goals to tie the game. One coming in the last minute of the first period and the other coming eleven seconds into the second.
In the third period, the Jackalopes truck to take their second lead of the hockey game off of Jared Chrsity's sixth goal of the season less than two minutes into the third. That lead lasted less than a minute as 58 seconds later the Mudbugs tied the game back up 4-4.
Camarre made multiple acrobatic saves in the waning minutes of the third, especially as the Jackalopes were on the penalty kill.
When overtime started, the Jackalopes had to kill off a penalty for a minute and 55 seconds. Early on in the kill, Camarre made a point blank stop on Mudbug forward Jack Jaunich. Jaunich had the puck at the top of the crease, with Camarre down and out.
As he shot the puck and elevated his shot it went right into the catching glove of Camarre as the Jack goaltender made a diving save to deny the Bugs a game-winning goal in overtime.
The Jackalopes killed off the penalty and another one soon afterwards to force a shootout to decide Saturday's game.
Like last Sunday against Topeka, the Jacks were perfect. Camarre stopped both Mudbug shots and Odessa scored two goals thanks to Christy and Kyle Herbster.
With the win, the Jackalopes improve to 8-9-1 on the year and ascend to 5th place in the North American Hockey League's Southern Division.
The Jackalopes will play the Corpus Christi IceRays on Wednesday November 21 to start a five-game homestead.
