AKRON, Ohio - The Rockford Thunder (15-21) lost a one-run game for the third time in this series Friday night, dropping game four of the set to the Akron Racers (19-17), 4-3.
The Thunder held a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not hold on to move to within two games of the final NPF playoff spot.
First baseman Tonya Callahan hit a home run and drove in two runs on the evening, while outfielder Kristen Zaleski drove in a run with a double to left field in the top of the sixth.
Akron scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, as the Racers' unofficial team MVP singled in Norelle Dickson, Veronica Wootson and Angelena Mexicano with the bases loaded with two outs.
Serena Settlemier (2-8) took the loss for the Thunder, while Angel Shamblin (4-5) took the complete game win for the Racers.
Rockford returns to action on Monday at home against the New England Riptide. That game will begin at 6:35 pm. Details on the series will be posted on the Thunder website shortly.
