California League North Division Teams Present Check to Ridgeview High School
Chico, CA - As California continues its slow recovery process after some of the deadliest & destructive fires in California history, the baseball teams of the California League have decided to step up to the plate and do their part for the relief efforts.
Through a league wide hat sale, the four teams from the North Division, the San Jose Giants, Modesto Nuts, Stockton Ports and Visalia Rawhide were able to raise $7,293 dollars. On Thursday morning, representatives from the four teams presented the check to Ridgeview High School Principal Michael Lerch at the Chico Boys and Girls Club. Ridgeview High was completely decimated by the Camp Fire, and like many of the schools in the region, has had to adapt and persevere through trying times.
"Witnessing the devastation from the Camp Fire from afar, we knew immediately we had to do something to help our California brethren," said Mark Wilson, San Jose Giants General Manager. "This is just a small step in a long road to recovery, but we wanted Mike, his students and the whole community to know they are not forgotten. It was wonderful to witness the resilience and indomitable spirit of the students and Butte county citizens firsthand, and we are looking to continue to help them rebuild."
Those wishing to donate to the areas impacted by the Camp Fire can donate via the North Valley Community Foundation here or donate directly to the Paradise Union School District by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
