Calgary Surge Sign Maurice Calloo

CALGARY, AB - The Calgary Surge have signed six-foot-ten forward Maurice Calloo from Windsor, ON for their 2023 inaugural season, the team announced Friday.

Calloo most recently played in the NBA G-League for the Salt Lake City Stars and the Windy City Bulls. He spent the 2022 season with the Guelph Nighthawks where he averaged 11.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in nine games played. He led the Nighthawks to a postseason berth and had 23 points in the playoff-clinching game.

"Maurice provides our team with high-level shooting from the stretch four position. With his length and versatility, both offensively and defensively, he will allow us to be more dynamic and create mismatches on the floor. He has a full year of NBA G-League experience under his belt, which translates well to our league," said Surge General Manager, Shane James.

The Windsor local spent the final two years of his National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) career with the Oregon State Beavers. In the 2021-22 season, Calloo averaged 8.6 points in 28 games. He was a key member of the Beavers' run to the Elite Eight at the NCAA tournament where he averaged 5.8 points per game and shot 42% from the three-point line. Calloo and the Beavers also won the 2021 PAC-12 Championship that year.

"I am super excited to touch down in Calgary and get to work. We have a lot to accomplish this year together and I am looking forward to working with my new teammates and the entire Surge staff," said Calloo.

As a sophomore, Calloo played for the Indian Hills Warriors in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA). He averaged 9.1 points and 3.9 rebounds for the Warriors in 33 games played.

In the 2018-19 season, Calloo began his NCAA career with the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Conference where he averaged 2.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in his rookie season.

Calloo also boasts experience on the international stage. The Ontarian represented Canada at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup that took place in Brazil.
