
Calfapietra Named Manager Of The Year

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that New Jersey Jackals manager Joe Calfapietra has been selected as the Manager of the Year, as voted by the six field managers and media.
Calfapietra, 38, is in his seventh season as manager of the Jackals. He guided New Jersey to their second playoff appearance (2007) and second first half title in the Can-Am League. The 55 wins are the most wins by a Jackals club since 2002. New Jersey finished second in the league in batting average (.283) and had five players named to the Postseason All-Star Team.
Calfapietra started his coaching career in 1994 with the Duluth-Superior Dukes of the Northern League. In 1995 and 1996, he coached the Aberdeen Pheasants of the Prairie League. Following his time in Aberdeen, he was named Director of Baseball Operations for the Allentown Ambassadors, a post he held for five years, including two seasons as manager in 2000-2001. After guiding the Gary Railcats (Northern League) in 2002, Calfapietra became the Jackals manager in 2003. His 2004 New Jersey team won the Northeast League Championship.
