Burley, Germaine Blaze Toward Record-Setting Seasons

May 28, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Utah Blaze News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Blaze WR SIAHA BURLEY (5-10, 176, Central Florida) and QB JOE GERMAINE (6-2, 229, Ohio State) look to continue their record-setting ways next Monday, June 4 at 8:30 p.m. (MT) against the Colorado Crush on espn2. The JOHN ELWAY-owned Crush (8-5) will visit the EnergySolutions Arena led by former ArenaBowl MVP QB JOHN DUTTON (6-4, 225, Nevada) and record-setting WR DAMIAN HARRELL (6-3, 182, Florida State).

Burley, who is a leading candidate for Offensive Player of the Year and an All-Arena selection, set a Blaze (6-7) single-season record with 138 receptions in this past weekend's victory over the Orlando Predators.

With three games remaining in the 2007 season, Burley has his sights set on the AFL's version of the triple crown: leader in receptions (138, currently No. 1), receiving yards (1,837, currently No. 1) and receiving touchdowns (41, currently tied for No. 1). The former Central Florida standout is on pace to have 173 receptions for 2,296 yards and 51 touchdowns. This would shatter AFL's marks for single-season receptions (154, MARCUS NASH in 2004) and yards (1,982, CALVIN SCHEXNAYDER in 1998).

Germaine currently has completed 359-of-512 (70.1%) passes for 4,332 yards (No. 1 in AFL), 92 touchdowns (No. 1 in AFL) and only nine interceptions for the 2007 season. The Offensive Player of the Year and All-Arena candidate currently is on pace to throw 113 touchdowns and 5,332 passing yards - both would shatter AFL records.

Germaine has his eye on numerous AFL single-season marks including: passing yards (4,841, MARK GRIEB in 2006), touchdown passes (105, CLINT DOLEZEL in 2006), and completion percentage (70.3%, Grieb in 2004). The former Buckeye and Rose Bowl MVP has 97 total touchdowns (passing and rushing) in the 2007 season.
