Valley Blue Sox News Release
HOLYOKE, MA-All season long, pitcher Michael Burke dominated opposing hitters. He dominated at the ballot box as well, being named the winner of the Robin Roberts Pitcher of the Year Award and joining third baseman Brendan Hendriks and pitcher Jordan Hillyer on the NECBL All-Star Team.
Burke led the league in ERA with a microscopic 0.55, surrendering just four earned runs in 65 innings, walking just nine while fanning 56 batters. He was selected to the All-Star Game and fired three complete games, including a shutout.
Hendriks was Holyoke's other First-Team selection, playing in a league-record 45 games-the only player to play in every game for the team-while hitting a scorching .342, second best in the league, with 52 hits that included ten doubles and 18 walks. Hendriks also made the All-Star Game, starting at third for the West.
Hillyer was a Second-Team selection, and provided a fireball of an arm, finishing second in the league in strikeouts with 64 in 62.1 innings, going 5-3 with a 2.46 ERA. He also appeared in the All-Star Game
Burke and Hillyer were part of a four man rotation that, along with Jordan Kutzer and Henry Van Zant, combined to allow just 43 earned runs in 219 innings, for an overall ERA of just 1.76, easily making Holyoke's starters the stingiest in the league.
