Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - After falling behind 4-1 after three innings, the Bulls scored five unanswered runs to pull out a 6-4 victory over Buffalo Monday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park giving Durham its third-straight win and series victory over the Bisons.
Down 4-3, the Bulls were able to turn the tables in the seventh with a Brandon Chaves two-run double giving Durham a 5-4 lead. Two batters later, Rashad Eldridge tacked on an insurance run making the score 6-4, the eventual final tally.
Buffalo jumped on the scoreboard early after getting two runs off Bulls starter Chris Mason. Durham answered back in the bottom of the second with a solo-shot from John Jaso, cutting Buffalo's lead to 2-1.
The Bisons tacked on two more in the third off Mason to take their largest lead of the game at 4-1. Mason, who was making his first start of the season after getting called up from Montgomery on Saturday, went 4.0 innings allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Durham cut Buffalo's lead to one in the fifth with a one-run single from Chaves and a Matt Hall force out scoring the runner from third. With that single and the go-ahead double in the seventh, Chaves ended the day 2-3 from the plate with a season-high three RBIs.
Mason was followed up by Chad Orvella, Jason Childers and Dale Thayer out of the bullpen. The trio combined to keep Montgomery scoreless on just three hits with Childers (6-1) picking up the win and Thayer the save (7).
The Bulls now have 13 come from behind victories this season with two of those coming in this four-game series with Buffalo. They have also railed off five-straight series victories and now have a 9-1-4 series record so far this season.
Durham begins a new four-game series with Toledo, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, on Tuesday. Matt DeSalvo (0-0, 6.75 ERA) takes the mound for the Bulls with first pitched scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
