Bucs/Panthers Gear Up For Round Two
May 21, 2010 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
LAKE CHARLES, LA - After a month long worth of road trips that has sort of left the club stranded at sea, the Louisiana Swashbucklers (2-4) of the Southern Indoor Football League look to right the ship against the first place Albany Panthers (5-0) in the second of back-to-back meetings.
Over the past couple of weeks, a lot of change has occurred within the Swashbucklers organization. Change with leadership and a return of another, but with change is supposed to come positive results and last week the Bucs recent modifications could not overcome their 2010 road woes losing to the Panthers 43-35. With their fourth straight road loss and third overall, Louisiana currently finds them self tied for last place and in the thick of a playoff race.
To make matters worse, the Swashbucklers lost both their starting Alvin Bartie and back-up quarterback Shaun Samuels in their loss to the Panthers. In light of their injuries, this weekend the Bucs welcomes the arrival of quarterback Freddie Harrison. Harrison returns after playing 11 games last season throwing for 22 touchdowns including 149 touchdowns over the past four seasons.
The Panthers come into the first road test with quarterback issues of their own. Starter Cecil Lester had to sit out last weekends contest against the Bucs due to a sore ankle and back-up Jeffrey Aaron was replaced mid-way through his first start after only completing 7 of 11 passes for 28 yards.
"Jeff started out pretty good at times but got a little rocky there," says Albany Panthers Head Coach Lucious Davis. "After that first drive we were stagnant, I felt we needed a change."
That change came with the mid-week signing of Andrico Hines. After barely being in time for just 48 hours, Hines came into the game in the second quarter and immediately made an impact leading the Panthers to three touchdown drives in the second half. He finished the night connecting on 12 of 20 passes for 143 yards with four touchdowns.
Due to the injuries, both clubs will be thin at quarterback as Hines and Harrison are the only two quarterbacks who will be dressing come Saturday night. It being Albany's first road game, head coach Lucious Davis is hoping the road will not present problems for his undefeated club.
"Our offensive schemes will continue with our approach to the passing and running game," says Davis. "Our receiving corps work well with any of our quarterbacks and we'll be coming to Lake Charles ready to play."
The Louisiana Swashbucklers get set to host the Albany Panthers this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
