ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Anchorage Bucs capitalized on three home runs to defeat the Mat-Su Miners 5-0 in the final non-league game of the Scout's Showcase at Mulcahy Stadium on Saturday.

The competition served as the conclusion of exhibition matchups between the five Alaska Baseball League (ABL) members. A total of six games were played in front of scouts from Major League Baseball organizations that included the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners.

"I just my guys to just go out and show off their stuff and have fun," Miners head coach Ben Taylor said.

Anchorage plated the first run of the evening in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run from third baseman McCarthy Tatum. Later in the inning, designated hitter Willy Homza launched a three-run shot over the right field fence to give the Bucs a 4-0 lead.

Anchorage leftfielder Bryant Harris added to the lead in the fifth with a solo shot on the first pitch of his at-bat.

Mat-Su starting pitcher Gage O'Brien was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs in 4.1 innings of work. The right-hander gave up five hits and five walks, but struck out three Anchorage batters.

Connor Higgins took the mound during the fifth inning and provided the Miners with 1.2 innings of relief. He surrendered three walks but held the Bucs scoreless.

Will Neely, Michael Flynn and Zach Reid combined to throw the seven-inning shutout against the Miners, holding Mat-Su to three hits on the evening.

Eleven members of the Miners roster will compete in the 2016 ABL All-Star Game on Sunday. Mat-Su first baseman Jake Scudder and outfielder Cam Montgomery are also scheduled to compete in the ABL Home Run Derby at 1 p.m.
