Bucks Topple Gorillas 3-1, Thomas Scores Two Goals

AMARILLO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks beat the Amarillo Gorillas 3-1 on the road in front of 2,221 fans at the Cal Farley Coliseum on Sunday night. It was the Bucks first ever regular season win in Amarillo, although Laredo is 4-1 on Gorillas' ice in post-season play. The Bucks picked up their third straight win as they capped off a perfect three-in-three weekend powered by a pair of goals by forward Leo Thomas. The Bucks are 10-1-2 in their last 13 road games. Laredo improved their Southern Conference best record to 31-13-5 with 67 points, and they lead Corpus Christi by eight points with a game in hand in the Southeast Division race. Laredo returns home against Amarillo on Thursday at the LEC. The Bucks will give away a pair of tickets to the sold out Mana concert. Laredo quickly jumped on top of the Gorillas. Forward Donnie Margettie fed a streaking Thomas who feathered the puck five-hole into the net at 2:11. It was the 16th of the year for Thomas. Amarillo came right back to tie the game as forward Matt Miller hopped on a rebound at 2:45.

The Bucks then took control of the game in the second period. Thomas scored his second of the night on a tip in of a Steve Simoes centering pass at 2:54 on a power play. Another power play chance in the frame le to defenseman Adam Rivet hammering home a one-timer from the top of the right circle at 13:00 to make it 3-1. It was the 16th of the season for Rivet. Laredo out shot Amarillo 14-6 in the second period.

In the third period the Bucks played solid defense, allowing just six shots, and cruised to the win. FINAL SCORE Laredo 3, Amarillo 0.

Eric Marvin stopped 20 of 21 shots and got the victory to improve to 16-5-4. Shawn Conschafter allowed three goals on 28 shots and fell to 14-9-1. Laredo went 2-6 on the power play while Amarillo was 0-7. The Bucks out shot the Gorillas 31-21.
