Laredo Bucks News Release
(5/08/03) The Laredo Bucks are pleased to announce their participation in an auction to benefit Louise Arters, who portrayed (along with her sister Janet) one of the Sparkle Twins in the classic hockey film, "Slap Shot." To help Louise in her battle with multiple sclerosis, the Bucks are donating a jersey autographed by members of the team. The Bucks jersey will be part of a fund-raising auction which takes place May 17-27 at www.frozenpond.com.
The auction includes over 100 items, including several signed by "Slap Shot" star Paul Newman. Proceeds from the auction will be used for the purchase of a handicapped-equipped van to help Louise Arters maintain her independence.
The Laredo Bucks are currently leading all of minor professional hockey in playoff attendance with an average of 7,400 fans per game. Overall, the Bucks drew more than a quarter of a million fans in their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League. For ticket information, call (956) 718-BUCKS or visit www.laredobucks.com.
