Laredo Bucks News Release
The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Friday that they have signed rookie forwards Zeanan Ziemer and Justin Michaud for the 2010-11 season. Ziemer and Michaud spent last season playing junior hockey in the MJHL where they led the Dauphin Kings to the Anavet Cup and Turner Cup Championships.
ALL-STAR ZIEMER A SCORING THREAT
21-year-old Zeanan Ziemer (pronounced ZEE-nan ZEE-mur) spent last season with the Kings where he put up 76 points (25-51=76) and 121 PIM's in 48 games. Ziemer was an All-Star as he ranked fifth in the MJHL last season in assists (51) and eighth in points (76). Ziemer also had 18 (6-12=18) points during last seasons MJHL playoffs helping lead the Kings to the championship.
"We need to improve our scoring from last season and Zeenan is a scorer," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He's quick, he can shoot the puck and he's knowledgeable about the game. We think he will add a lot to our team this season."
Ziemer, 5'10'', 190 pounds, was acquired by the Kings in November 2009 in a trade with the OCN Blizzard. Ziemer spent the first three seasons of his junior career with the Blizzard.
From 2006-2009 the Brandon, Manitoba native played in 163 regular season games for the Blizzard putting up 179 points (91-88=179) and 210 PIM's.
In the 2008-09 campaign Ziemer notched career highs in goals (45) and points (79) to go along with 34 assists as he was named an MJHL All-Star.
"Zeanan scored over 70 points in three straight seasons and was a multiple-time all-star in juniors," said Ruskowski. "If he continues to play at that level here he will make a big impact."
Ziemer picked up 72 points (32-40=72) in the 2007-08 season and put up 28 points (14-14=28) during his 2006-07 rookie campaign.
*ENFORCER MICHAUD TO BRING TOUGHNESS*
Last season 21-year-old Justin Michaud (pronounced MISH-odd) split last season with the Kings and the Selkirk Steelers. Michaud put up a total of 15 points (6-9=15) and piled up 147 PIM's in 52 regular season games. Michaud's 147 PIM's ranked 12th in the MJHL. Michaud picked up two points (1-1=2) and 19 PIM's in 13 playoff games helping lead the Kings to the championship.
"Justin will bring lots of toughness to our team this season, there's no doubt in my mind," said Ruskowski. "I've heard nothing but positive things about Justin's toughness and the way sticks up for his teammates."
In 159 career junior games Michaud piled up 433 PIM's.
Michaud, from Selkirk, Manitoba, spent his first two and a half junior seasons playing in his hometown for the Selkirk Steelers from 2007-2009. In the 2008-09 campaign Michaud had 14 points (6-8=14) and 151 PIM's in 56 games for the Steelers. During the 2007-08 season the 6'2'', 220 pound Michaud picked up nine points (6-8=14) and 135 PIM's in 51 games.
"Justin was considered one of the toughest players in the MJHL for the past three seasons and we feel he can make a big impact here in Laredo."
Ziemer and Michaud are the fifth and sixth Bucks signed this offseason.
The Bucks will start their ninth CHL season on October 15th with their home opener October 23rd at Laredo Energy Arena. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to place our order now.
