
Bucks Beat Bees 4-2, Laredo Wins Fifth Straight

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks got a pair of goals from All-Star rookie forward Chris Korchinski as they beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2 in front of 5,502 fans at the LEC on Sunday night. It was the Bucks fourth straight win over the Killer Bees and their fifth consecutive overall, matching their season high. Laredo has won 10 of their last 12 games to post the best record in the Southern Conference at 19-8-2 with 40 points. Laredo is home on Friday against the Austin Ice Bats. Laredo scored first as they capitalized on a power play chance. Defenseman Steve Weidlich teed up a one-timer from the top of the left circle thru a screen in front at 11:08. It was his second of the season. Rio Grande Valley tied it late in the period when forward Emery Olauson swatted in a rebound at 18:31.
The Bucks retook the lead early in the second period as Korchinski scored on a rebound to make it 2-1 Laredo at 1:39. It was his ninth of the season. Just under two minutes later Korchinski scored his second of the night, and tenth of the year, on another rebound this time on a power play at 3:32. The Bucks continued to roll along as forward Bobby Chaumont jammed in a rebound for another power play goal at 7:26. It was his fifteenth of the season and made it 4-1 Laredo.
The Killer Bees scored in the third period at 15:27 on the power play when forward Jason Cirone put home a rebound, but the Bucks held on for the win. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Rio Grande Valley 2.
Kevin Reiter stopped 33 of 35 shots and improved to 4-1-0. Jeff Van Nynatten allowed four goals on 35 shots and fell to 3-7-1. The Bucks went 3-7 on the power play, while Rio Grande Valley was 1-5. Laredo out shot the Killer Bees 36-35.
