Bruce Massey Jr., Guillaume Boucard Named Players of the Week

January 14, 2019 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) News Release

The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Bruce Massey of the Cape Breton Highlanders has been named Player of the Week for the week ending January 13, 2019. This is Massey's third week where he has received Player of the Week honours this season.

Massey, a 6'3" guard who played collegiately at Middle Tennessee State, averaged 35.3 ppg in three games for Cape Breton, including scoring over 40 points in two victories.

"It's a true testament from the plan we put in place in the beginning of the season," said Highlanders general manager Tyrone Levingston. "With Bruce Massey and Jamal Reynolds, We're going to put all our eggs in the basket to do what is necessary, which is work and prepare to be the best that we can be, and it's coming to fruition. Bruce is an amazing player, as everybody is now starting to see, but we're on a mission this year and it's starting to produce fruit. His hard work speaks volumes for the vision of the club."

The National Basketball League of Canada is also pleased to announce that Guillaume Boucard of the Island Storm has been named Canadian Player of the Week for the week ending January 13, 2019.

Boucard, a 6'6" forward from Montreal who played collegiately at Carleton, averaged 15.5 ppg in his first two games with the Island Storm, helping them win their two games this week. He joins the Storm after a mid-season trade with the St. John's Edge.

"As soon as he became available, we couldn't answer quick enough," said Storm head coach Tim Kendrick. "I know Guillaume from last year, he's just a very good, solid player. This guy can play at both ends of the court, he's been a really good addition with our second unit, and we feel like for us he's been a real help for us and he's only going to get better."
