Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Grand Rapids Rampage announced the signing of quarterback Nick Browder, who will compete with Michael Bishop and Curt Anes in training camp for the team's starting quarterback position.

Browder (6'01" 210 lbs Valparaiso) was the starting quarterback for the expansion Philadelphia Soul last season. He set career marks in completions (145), attempts (244), yards (1,685) and touchdowns (31) and led them to three of their five victories. In 2001 and 2003, Browder served as Clint Dolezel's backup here in Grand Rapids. In limited time, he completed 8-of-13 passes for 120 yards with one passing score and three rushing TDs. In 2002, he played with the Detroit Fury, where his best game was against the Rampage when he tossed five touchdowns and ran in another with 299 passing yards; and earned Game MVP honors. Browder started his AFL career in 2000 with the Buffalo Destroyers and played in five games.

"I've coached Browder for two seasons (2001-2002) here in Grand Rapids and he knows my offensive system," Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen said. "Nick has been a starter in Detroit (2003) and in Philadelphia (seven games in 2004) and he's looking forward to an opportunity to become a starter again."

Prior to the AFL, Browder was the starting quarterback for the Indoor Football League champion Green Bay Bombers in 1999. He finished his college career as Valparaiso's all-time total offense leader and earned All-Conference honors twice and All-American honors once.

Grand Rapids opens training camp on January 2, 2005 at the Soccer Spot in Kentwood, Michigan. The Rampage kickoff their eight Arena season on Friday, January 28, 2005 at Van Andel Arena against the Arizona Rattlers.
