Brookings Blizzard News Release

The Brookings Blizzard beat Bismarck 3-2 Wednesday night at the Larson Ice Center, their third win in the last four games against the Bobcats.

Early in the first period Drew Brevig scored the game's first goal at the 3:19 mark off of assists from Aidan Cavallini and Thomas Williams.

Later in the period, Cavallini crashed the net hard following a shot from Eetu Karvinen to score the games second goal and put the Blizzard up 2-0 at the end of the first period. Karvinen and Williams were credited with the assists.

Bismarck came out hard in the second period to kept it close. Cory Chapman scored at the 7:57 mark of the second to cut the Blizzard lead in half going into the second intermission. Halfway through the final period Blizzard goaltender Drew Weigman was able to block a shot from Joe Giordano, one of his 29 saves on the night, but Jeremy O'Keefe was there to bury the loose puck to tie the game 2-2.

The Blizzard quickly responded when Connor Anderle broke in and beat Bobcat goaltender Aaron Nelson between the legs off a nice pass from Eric Brenk to secure the 3-2 victory for the Blizzard.

Wednesday's game was the rubber match after these two teams split over the weekend in Bismarck. The Bobcats took home the victory in a hard fought game last Friday by a score of 2-1. The Blizzard responded well Saturday winning 4-3 in a shootout. The game went back and forth as Bismarck took three one goal leads, but Brookings responded each time to force overtime.

Drew Brevig tied the game at one with his sixth goal of the year midway through the first, and then Eric Brenk set up Connor Andrle with his third of the year knotting the game at two late in the first. Casey Purpur tied at three scoring on an assist from Thomas Williams and Spencer Peratalo. Drew Weigman came up huge in the shootout stopping all four shots. Eric Brenk and Connor Andrle buried their chances for a 2-0-shootout edge.

Brookings is one point out of third place and three points out of second in the Central Division. They have two road games this weekend against Coulee Region. Tune into fasthockey.com Friday night at 7pm.
