Laredo, TX- The Laredo Broncos of the United League have signed OF Edgard Clemente to a 2008 contract. General Manager Jose Melendez and Field Manager Dan Shwam have announced.
Clemente was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 1993 June Amateur Draft. He played for 6 seasons in the Rockies minor league system before being called up during the 1998 season. In his rookie year for Colorado, Clemente batted .353 in 11 games. Clemente also played in 57 games the following year for the Rockies. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2000 and appeared in 46 games. The 2000 season would be his last in the majors as for the next 2 years he played minor league ball for the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers organizations. For his major league career Clemente batted .249 with 8 home runs and 32 rbi's.
Clemente continued his career with various independent clubs after being release by the Brewers at the end of 2002. He has made stops in Somerset of the Atlantic League, and Sioux Falls of the Northern league before joining the Broncos in 2007. In his first season with Laredo, Clemente hit .309 with 8 home runs and 27 rbi's in 44 games.

Clemente is the nephew of the late great Roberto Clemente who played with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clemente will be playing in the outfield for the Broncos as well as their other new addition in Dwayne White. White played in the Minnesota Twins organization for the past three seasons. In his minor league career, he has batted .251 with 14 home runs and 110 rbi's.
The Laredo Broncos finished their second season in 2007. The Broncos will play a 90 game season from May to September with 46 home games at Veterans Field.
