Broncos Rally Late but Lose in Extras to Edinburg

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos fought back from being down 4 runs only to fall in 10 innings to the Edinburg Coyotes 9-5 Saturday Night at Veterans Field in front of a crowd of 2058. The Broncos continue on this 6 game home stand with the final game of a 3 game series against the Edinburg Coyotes on Sunday Night. For more info call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

John Odom made his Broncos debut after the famous trade for 10 maple bats. The Coyotes were able to get to him in the 2nd inning. Logan Wood led off the inning with a double and then advanced to 3rd on a groundout. Then with 2 outs Amado German walked putting runners on the corners. German would then attempt to steal 2nd and when catcher Luany Sanchez threw the ball to 2nd Logan went home and scored giving both runners a stolen base and making the score 1-0.

That would be it for John Odom who went only 2 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits. He walked 2 and struck out none.

Sean Donlin came in relief of Odom and was sharp in his 1 inning of work. He gave up no runs on no hits. He walked no one and struck out 2 batters. Julian Williams came into the game in the 4th inning in relief of Donlin.

The Coyotes would strike again in the 4th inning against Williams. With one out Logan Wood singled and then stole 2nd base. He would advance to 3rd on a groundout. Eric Gonzalez would walk and Amado German hit an infield single scoring Wood and moving Gonzalez to 2nd. Jason Arrowood would walk to load the bases and then Williams hit Nick Aranda with a pitch to give the Coyotes a 3-0 lead.

Edinburg would get another run in the 5th inning. With one out Daryl Jones Walked and then advanced to 3rd when Julian Williams pick off throw was booted by Jose Salas. Logan Wood would follow with a sacrifice fly and the score was now 4-0 Coyotes.

Julian Williams would be done after that going 2 innings giving up 3 runs 2 of which were earned. He gave up 3 hits, walked 3 batters, and struck out 2. Dan Sausville came in to pitch in the top of the 6th inning.

Coyotes starter John Maschino would leave the game after pitching 5 strong innings. He gave up no runs on hits. He walked no one and struck out 5. Bryan Heaston came in relief in the bottom of the 6 inning and ran into some trouble. Luany Sanchez and Edgard Clemente singled to start off the inning with no one out. Jose Salas would fly out and then Santiago Guerrero hit into a fielder's choice forcing out Sanchez at 3rd base. Ivan Reyes would strike to end the inning and keeping the score 4-0 Edinburg.

Laredo was finally able to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 7th inning. Matt Lawman led off with a walk and then scored from 1st on a double by Anthony Bennett. Dwayne White would then hit a line smash that was caught by the Coyotes 1st baseman Mayobanex Santana and he threw to 2nd to pick off Bennett and end the threat with the score 4-1.

Edinburg would get another run in the 8th inning. Mayobanex Santana and Eric Gonzalez both singled to begin the inning. Amado German would strike out as would Jason Arrowood but during Arrowood's at bat Santana stole 3rd base and Gonzalez took 2nd. With Nick Aranda batting Dan Sausville would throw a wild pitch scoring Santana and making the score 5-1.

That would do it for Dan Sausville who went 3 innings giving up the 1 run on 2 hits. He would walk none and strike out 5. John Smith would come in and strike out the side in his inning of work as the Broncos trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the 9th.

With Coyotes Reliever Luke Prihoda in Santiago Guerrero led off the 9th with a single. After one out Matt Lawman hit a double moving Guerrero to 3rd base. Edinburg would then bring in their closer Julio Castro as they game became a save situation. Anthony Bennett would single in Guerrero to make it a 3 run game. Then Dwayne White came up and hit a 3 run home run his 2nd of the season to tie the game at 5.

Rusty Jones would come into the game in the top of 10th inning and after getting the first man out Mayobanex Santana reached base on an error by shortstop Arnoldo Ponce. Eric Gonzalez would then double scoring Santana from 1st. Then with 2 outs Jason Arrowood hit a 2 run home run his 2nd of the season to give the Coyotes a 3 run lead. Nick Aranda would then walk and steal 2nd base. That was followed by single by Angelo Fermin. Rusty Jones would leave the game and be relieved by Eric Padilla. Padilla would get Gary Roche to pop out to end the inning. The score was 9-5 Coyotes with the lead. All 4 runs that were scored that inning were unearned.

The Broncos could not rally in the bottom of the 10th and fell by a score of 9-5.

The Broncos had 5 runs on 14 hits and 2 errors, while the Coyotes had 9 runs on 10 hits and 0 errors.

The Broncos fall to 9-8 on the season . The Broncos will be back in action on Sunday night at Veterans Field for the finale of a 3 game set against Edinburg at 7:30.
