San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Alexandria Aces scored five times in the first inning off starter Frank James, and they cruised from there to a 13-6 victory over the San Angelo Colts Saturday night.
A crowd of 2,477 barely settled into their seats with their giveaway T-shirts, sponsored by the First Community Federal Credit Union, before the first six hitters all reached against James (1-2). Albert Gonzalez led off with a walk, and Homy Ovalles followed with a single. Selwyn Langaigne then bashed a three-run homer to right center on a 2-0 pitch to give the Aces (8-9) a 3-0 lead.
San Angelo (8-9) got one run back against Alexis Sosa (2-1) in the first on back-to-back doubles by John Anderson and Bryan Frichter, but those were the only hits for the Colts until the sixth inning. By then, they trailed 10-1, as James was chased in the fifth, having given up nine runs on 12 hits, while walking three and striking out eight.
The Colts got five straight base runners in the sixth to cut the lead to 10-4, but couldn't rally further. Right-hander Chris Weast made his professional debut in the eighth, relieving Matt Greanead, but gave up three runs book-ended by his first two strikeouts.
Felipe Garcia relived Sosa-who went the first six-and pitched the next two frames. Garcia allowed a run when three of the first four hitters reached, but then he settled into dominance. The righty struck out the final five men he faced.
With the Colts' victory Friday night, the teams will now play their third rubber match in as many Sundays. The road teams have won the first two, the Colts winning 3-2 on May 18 in Alexandria, and the Aces winning 10-5 last Sunday at Foster Field.
