East Texas PumpJacks News Release

Not only did fans go home happy on Shirt Off Our Back Night, presented by Republic Sevices, with a game-worn jersey, they were also treated to a record-breaking night as well as a complete game shutout. The East Texas Pump Jacks rolled to a 8-0 victory over the Texas Marshals Saturday night at Historic Driller Park.

It is very difficult to overshadow a complete game, nine strikeout performance, but Matthew Dickey did exactly that, making history. Dickey was determined achieving what he and Pump Jack fans have been waiting for, his 34th (and 35th) stolen base of the season to break the Pump Jack single season stolen base record set in 2011 by Kirby Pellant.

The Kilgore native did not make Pump Jack fans wait long, picking up the record-breaking swipe in the first inning. With six games still remaining in the TCL regular season, next on the docket for Dickey is the TCL single season record of 39.

Dickey may have lead the way on the base paths, but Nick Rossetta dominated on the mound with a complete game shut out, his second of the season, in the Pump Jacks 8-0 victory over the Texas Marshals. The affectionately name "Dirtbag" out of Long Beach State faced only 34 batters and needed 110 pitches to complete the game, 79 for strikes. In his nine innings Rosetta allowed only seven hits and picked up a season high nine strikeouts. The win moved Rossetta to 6-2 on the season and dropped his ERA to a sparkling 1.23, top in the TCL.

Rossetta was hot from the start, retiring seven straight to open the game, and did not cool off. The offense backed their starter, collecting eight runs on eight hits.

Dickey scored the first run of the game in the opening frame. After a walk, his 34th stolen base, and a balk, the speedy SFA outfielder found himself on third with no outs. Mitch Meyer skied a ball into right, sacrificing Dickey home and putting the Jacks up 1-0.

After three quiet innings the offense emerged to score four runs to widen the gap. Connor Huesers kicked off the inning with a walk, his third of the ballgame, and then advanced all the way to third on an errant throw on a pick off attempt. Meyer destroyed a ball to right and grabbed three bags, as well as an RBI, plating Huesers. Joey Armstrong drove home Meyer on a bouncing single over Jared Pruett at second, and Bret Bitow followed with his second double of the game to put two runners in scoring position. Nate Esposito brought home both runners with a broken bat single, giving East Texas a 5-0 lead.

The Jacks added to the lead in the eighth with three more runs to close out the scoring in the game. Pinch hitting Garrett McMullen starting things off and laced a single up the middle on the first pitch he saw. After Dickey was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, McMullen and Dickey executed a perfect double steal to put runners on second and third. Ben Mordini, in a pinch hit appearance, knocked his second hit, and his second double of the year, to bring home both McMullen and Dickey. Mordini scooted over to third on a wild pitch and came home on a grounder off the bat of Armstrong for the final run of the ballgame securing the 8-0 victory.

The Pump Jacks will look for their momentum to continue as they close out the two-game series with the Marshals, and the four-game homestand Sunday night.
