Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME - Etienne Brodeur has had a season for the ages, and it continued on Sunday afternoon, as the Lewiston MAINEiacs visited the Rimouski Oceanic. The 19-year old scored three goals, including the game winner, as the MAINEiacs came from behind for a 4-3 win against the Oceanic in front of 3,581 fans at Colisee de Rimouski.

The Oceanic got on the board first at the 3:16 mark of the opening period. With a delayed penalty upcoming against Lewiston, Alex Belzile faked a slap shot, and sent a pass through the slot to Jarrad Struthers. Struthers was wide open on the play, allowing for an easy tap-in from the left side of the crease.

The MAINEiacs were quick to respond, tying the score 2:11 later. Etienne Brodeur rushed into the zone on a 2-on-1, kept the puck to himself, and roofed a shot over Morgan Clark's left shoulder. Later in the period, Lewiston took the lead. Olivier Dame-Malka picked up the puck, carried it into the offensive zone, and rifled a slap shot through Clark.

Unfortunately for the MAINEiacs, Rimouski was quick to respond as well. A loose puck dribbled out to Jerome Gauthier-Leduc in the high slot. Gauthier-Leduc teed up a slap shot, and scored over Nicholas Champion's right shoulder. Before the high scoring period could come to an end, the Oceanic retook the lead. Jarrad Struthers had his initial shot blocked from the right circle, but was able to net the rebound for his second tally of the game.

Early in the second period, Lewiston evened the score. Etienne Brodeur took a feed from Olivier Dame-Malka, broke down the right side of the ice, and lifted a backhander over Clark's glove. Later in the frame, the MAINEiacs faced some adversity, as a pair of penalties to Dame-Malka and Nicholas Champion put the visitors shorthanded by two men. However, the penalty kill was remarkable, holding the Oceanic off of the scoreboard, despite the fact that the puck was inside the zone for 1:48 of the 2:00 advantage.

A few minutes after the kill, the MAINEiacs got a power play of their own, as Liam O'Brien was whistled for cross checking. 14 seconds into the man advantage, Lewiston cashed in, as Matt Bissonnette found Etienne Brodeur open in front of the crease. Brodeur slid a shot through Clark's legs for his third goal of the game, as well as his 47th of the season, which tied Mathieu Aubin's franchise record for goals in a single season. The hat trick was also Brodeur's third of the year.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period, as the MAINEiacs went on to the 4-3 victory - their fifth win in six tries against the Oceanic this season. Nicholas Champion earned his 25th win of the season in goal for Lewiston, making 27 saves on 30 shots. Morgan Clark suffered the loss for Rimouski, allowing four goals on 28 shots.

The MAINEiacs will continue their three-game road trip on Thursday at 7:30, when they visit the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Lewiston's next home game takes place on Sunday at 4:00, when they play the back end of a home-and-home series with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
