Baltimore Brigade News Release
BALTIMORE, MD - The Arena Football League announced today that Baltimore Brigade defensive back Nias Martin has been named Week 4's Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance against the Atlantic City Blackjacks.
Martin recorded two interceptions, including his first pick-six of his AFL career, and three solo tackles. With a little over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Martin snagged Atlantic City quarterback Randy Hippeard's pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown, which left the Brigade trailing by just one point at 33-32. Martin's first interception of the night came during the first quarter where he grabbed another pass from Hippeard.
The Baltimore native is playing in his second AFL season after making a brief appearance in one game with the Brigade last year. Martin is one of just three players in the AFL who have returned an interception for a touchdown this season. Martin is second on the Brigade in interceptions (2) and fourth in total tackles (8.5).
This is the second consecutive week a Baltimore player has earned AFL Defensive Player of the Week honors. Last week, linebacker Dexter Jackson was named Week 3's Defensive Player of the Week.
The Baltimore Brigade take on the Philadelphia Soul this Sunday, May 26 at 3:00 pm at Royal Farms Arena.
