Baltimore Brigade News Release
BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore Brigade announced changes as the team cut their training camp roster from 35 players to 23. The Brigade made transactions last week including the re-signing of six-time All-Arena wide receiver Brandon Thompkins and All-Arena fullback Rory Nixon, both who have been with the team since its inception.
Thompkins, an eight-year veteran, has earned six All-Arena honors in just four years. Last season, he was the only player in the Arena Football League to earn All-Arena honors at two different positions, a feat he has done twice, earning both First Team All-Arena honors for kick returner and wide receiver in 2016. That year, Thompkins also earned Playmaker of the Year as he led the league in kick returns (93) and kick return touchdowns (5). He was third in the league for receptions per game (8.4), receiving yards per game (101.9) and scoring touchdowns (45).
"Baltimore is home for me," Thompkins said. "I'm glad to be back because we have unfinished business to attend to. I'm ready to get back out on the field."
Thompkins returns to Baltimore after having an exceptional 2018 season. He led the Brigade and ranked third in the AFL with 85 receptions. He led the league in all-purpose yards (1724) and yards per kick return (19.3). He led the Brigade in receiving yards (809) and receiving touchdowns (15). Thompkins is currently the all-time leader in receptions (137), receiving yards (1435), receiving touchdowns (24), kickoff return attempts (78) and kickoff return yards (1521) for the Brigade.
Also returning to Baltimore for his third season is five-year veteran Nixon. Nixon earned Second Team All-Arena honors for his performance with the Brigade in 2018. He led the league in rush attempts (34) and was tied for first in the league in rushing touchdowns (8). His career totals include 44 receptions for eight touchdowns and 249 rushing yards for 27 touchdowns. During his two seasons with the Brigade, Nixon has tallied 21 receptions for five touchdowns and 115 rushing yards for 14 touchdowns. He was named offensive player of the game after rushing for three touchdowns against Washington in week 10.
Nixon and Thompkins join offensive linemen Colin Madison and Kyron Samuels who both re-signed with Baltimore last week. In addition, the team designated five players as injured reserved including defensive backs Lance Austin and Jamal Robinson, wide receivers Ervin Philips and Caylon Weathers, and defensive lineman Christopher Lee.
Baltimore kicks off their season at Royal Farms Arena this Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. for a rematch of last season's ArenaBowl Championship game against Washington. Fans looking to purchase single game tickets to the home opener may visit BaltimoreBrigade.com or call 667-930-0200.
