Brewer and Lamb Sweep Weekly League Honors

MOBILE, AL -- The Southern League announced this week that BayBears RHP Charles Brewer and third baseman Jake Lamb have been named the league's Pitcher and Hitter of the Week for the time period between June 9-15.
The two are the fourth and fifth BayBears to nab Southern League weekly honors this season. Joining first baseman Jon Griffin for his work at the Southern League's top hitter May 19-25, Infielder/Outfielder Mike Freeman for his performance as the league's best hitter April 21-27 and RHP Chase Anderson who was awarded the League's best pitcher honors for the week of April 3rd - 13th.
This marks the first time this season the BayBears have swept both awards in the same week.
Brewer dazzled Stars batters in a win over Huntsville June 9th. The righty held the Stars hitless until the sixth inning, allowing just the lone hit, no earned runs and striking out a career-high 13 in just six innings on the mound. Five days later Brewer followed with another six innings on the mound, allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out eight against Pensacola in a 4-2 win June 15.
The Paradise Valley, Arizona native finished the week with a 2-0 record. Sporting a 1.50 ERA over 12 innings. In two starts during the week, them12th-round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2009 allowed just 2 runs on 12 hits, walking six and striking out 21.
Lamb finished the weekly time period with a .476 batting average. In two games against Huntsville and five against Pensacola, the left handed batter went 10-for-21 with seven extra-base hits included three doubles, a triple and two home runs. Lamb finished with 11 RBI, walking four times and striking out just four times.
A sixth-round selection by the D-backs in 2012, Lamb finished the first half of the season batting .325 which ranks second in League play while compiling 11 homers and 56 RBI.
