Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

The Cane Cutters undefeated season ended on Monday in the first game of a seven-inning doubleheader against the Brazos Valley Bombers, the reigning Texas Collegiate League champions, in a 6-2 defeat in Brazos Valley, Texas.

After the Cane Cutters jumped to a 1-0 lead in the third, defense took over for both ball clubs until the last inning.

At the top of the seventh, the Cane Cutters were able to add a dire insurance run to the scoreboard before handing the ball over to the Bombers at the bottom of the seventh.

Three outs separated the Cane Cutters from starting the season off 5-0.

The Bombers were able to tie the game at two with runners at first and second, but a walk forced loaded bases.

Alex Samples, the next man up to bat for the Bombers, ended the Cane Cutters four-game winning streak with a walk-off grand slam.

The two teams were given a 30-minute break before the start of game two.
