New York/New Jersey Juggernaut News Release

Hempstead, NY - June 16, 2005- Peaches James tallied 11 strikeouts, but it was not enough as the Stratford Brakettes topped the NY Juggernaut in game one of the four game series. Linda Secka recorded the lone RBI the Brakettes needed to put Stratford ahead in the third inning. That one run would prove to be all they needed to hand the Juggernaut their second loss of the season.

After an hour and a half rain delay, the Stratford Brakettes were able to score first in the top of the third inning. Lovena Chaput led off the inning with a triple off the right field fence. Callie Piper followed with a walk. Peaches James was able to record two outs before the Brakettes came across the board. James induced a groundout by Amanda Jensen and Chaput got caught in a run down at third base and was tagged out by Juggernaut first baseman Laura Taylor. With two outs, Linda Secka laced an RBI single to left field to put the Brakettes on the board. James recorded her sixth strikeout of the night as she got Denise Denis to end the inning.

The Juggernaut threatened in the fourth but were unable to put any runs on the board. Ryan Realmuto hit a two out double down the right field line. Trena Peel followed with an infield single and Brakettes second baseman tried to get Realmuto at third, allowing Peel to advance to second on the throw. Stratford pitcher, Leslie Malerich, got the third out of the inning to shut down the Juggernaut offense.

Sarah Pauly entered the game in the circle for the Brakettes in the sixth inning. After struggling, walking Jodie Cox and Realmuto, Pauly got out of the inning on a double play. Peel flied out to the second baseman, Erica Sobel, who doubled off Realmuto at first to end the inning and the Juggernaut threat.

The NY Juggernaut continue their series as they host the Stratford Brakettes Friday, June 17th at 7:00 p.m. Hofstra University is hosting the Special Olympics this weekend and the Juggernaut will join in the celebration to honor these athletes during Friday night's game.
