Waikiki BeachBoys News Release
Waikiki starter Andrew Brackman tossed five scoreless innings as the BeachBoys downed North Shore, 3-1, tonight at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.
Brackman, a New York Yankees farmhand, surrendered three hits and struck out five through five scoreless frames, and improved to 1-1 on the young Hawaii Winter Baseball season. Jeremy Papelbon allowed a run in the game's final two innings to preserve the win, and earned his first save in the process.
The BeachBoys (2-4) scored twice in the sixth inning thanks in part to Damon Sublett's RBI single followed by Todd Frazier's sacrifice fly. Tommy Giles singled in Roger Kieschnick to give Waikiki an insurance run in the ninth frame.
North Shore (1-5) received two hits apiece from Matt McBride and Kenji Sato in the losing effort. Honu reliever Ben Swaggerty (1-1) took the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits through two innings on the hill.
The two squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second of a three-game set.
