Bourret and Levasseur Win QMJHL Player of the Week Awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 12, 2005 (QMJHL) - Shawinigan Cataractes forward Alex Bourret and Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 5th to 11th

In three games, Bourret tallied one goal and eight assists, notching a +6 (plus/minus) differential while playing with a physical edge to his game - dishing out 11 bodychecks. His best performance came last Friday against Gatineau as he managed four helpers in a 6-3 win at the Jacques-Plante arena, stopping the Olympiques' winning streak at nine games. The Thrashers' first round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft now has 55 points in 32 games this season. The Cataractes' next game is this Wednesday as they begin a home-and-home series against the Voltigeurs in Drummondville.

Mathieu Roy (3-4-7) of the Titan, Benoît Mondou (5-3-8) of the Cataractes and Alexandre Picard-Hooper (4-4-8) of the Drakkar were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur. In three games this week, Levasseur notched his first two career shutout wins, which came against the Drakkar and the Voltigeurs, while losing once versus the Olympiques. He became the first goaltender to 20 wins this season and posted a 1.33 goals-against-average as well as a .952 save percentage. Levasseur is currently in the midst of a 122 minute scoreless streak. He tries to prolong it tonight as the Huskies travel to Victoriaville to face the Tigres. A win would enable the team to join both Chicoutimi and Acadie-Bathurst at the top of the QMJHL overall standings.

Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were goaltenders Jérémy Duchesne (2-0-0; 1 SO; 125 MP; 1,44 GAA; ,955 SAV%) of the Mooseheads and Ondrej Pavelec (2-0-0; 122 MP; 1,47 GAA; ,952 SAV%) of the Screaming Eagles, as well as defenseman Pierre-Marc Guilbault (1-5-6) of the Cataractes.
