Bouchard Sets Record, East Beats West

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Wednesday that Muskegon Fury right wing Robin Bouchard has registered a goal in 17-straight games, setting a new professional hockey record for longest consecutive goal-scoring streak.

Bouchard tallied the game-tying goal in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Adirondack IceHawks to extend his record-setting streak. He has amassed 21-goals during the streak that began on December 20, 2003.

The 30-year-old Jonquiere, Quebec native eclipses the old record shared by retired National Hockey League (NHL) forward Punch Broadbent (Ottawa, 1921-22) and the ECHL's Darren Schwartz (Wheeling, 1992-93).

"We are extremely proud of Robin's historical accomplishment. This achievement is a true testament of the level of hard work, dedication and talent he brings to the United Hockey League," stated President/CEO Richard Brosal.

Bouchard will attempt to extend his consecutive goal-scoring streak on Thursday, January 22, 2004 when the Fury travel to Elmira, New York. Muskegon plays the Elmira Jackals at 7:00 PM at the First Arena.

EAST DEFEATS WEST IN LEAGUE'S FIFTH ALL-STAR CLASSIC

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The Eastern Conference All-Stars defeated the Western Conference All-Stars 8-3 in the Comcast 2004 UHL All-Star Classic.

The Fort Wayne Komets hosted a league All-Star Classic record crowd of 8,119 on January 18, 2004 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Western Conference opened the scoring, tallying the first two goals of the game. Muskegon Fury center Todd Robinson notched the first goal of the game at 1:38 of the first period and Rockford IceHogs forward Steve Cygan gave the West a 2-0 lead with a goal at the 8:25 mark of the opening period. First-year left wing David Noel-Bernier of Muskegon assisted on both tallies. The Eastern Conference cut the lead in half with a goal from Elmira Jackals center Randy Murphy at the 12:51 of the first period.

In the second frame, the East evened the score and went ahead by two goals with marks by Richmond RiverDogs center Kevin St. Jacques, Adirondack IceHawks left wing Hugo Belanger and Port Huron Beacons right wing Michel Beausoleil. Muskegon's Brant Blackned registered a power play goal for the West to bring them within one tally. The East opened up the game, recording two more goals (Beausoleil and Jay Murphy) to complete the period.

The final period of the game was highlighted by a perfect 20-save effort by Eastern Conference netminder Dan McIntyre of Flint and the game's MVP Port Huron's Beausoleil netting a hat trick to seal the win for the East. St. Jacques finished the game with three points (2g, 1a) and a plus-four rating and three-time UHL Regular Season MVP Belanger completed the game with four-points (1g, 3a) and a plus-six rating.

The Fort Wayne Komets, defending 2003 Colonial Cup champions, earned the franchise's first ever Tarry Cup and hosted the largest crowd (10,593) to ever attend a UHL game. The Komets are enjoying their fifth year as a member of the UHL. The Komet franchise, the second oldest franchise in minor league hockey, was a member of the International Hockey League (IHL) for 47 years prior to joining the UHL in 1999 and is celebrating its 52nd year of professional hockey in the Fort Wayne area.

The UHL is celebrating its 13th consecutive season with 11 member clubs in six states, including the expansion Richmond RiverDogs (Virginia).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Justin Cardwell- Rockford completed the 13th week of the season registering 7-points (6g, 1a) and a plus-eight rating in three games. After opening the week dishing out one assist in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Muskegon Fury, Cardwell tallied back-to-back hat tricks on Friday and Saturday to finish the week. The 30-year-old St. Paul, Minnesota native is the first player in IceHogs team history to notch consecutive hat tricks. Cardwell is currently riding a seven-game point -scoring streak, amassing 11-points (8g, 3a) during that span.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Stu Dunn-Port Huron completed the 13th week of the season posting a 2-0-0 record, a 2.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .957 save percentage (SPCT). He successfully turned away 89 of 93 shots on goal, including a 52-save performance in Friday's 6-3 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings. Dunn collected his 14th win of the season, stopping 37 of 38 shots on goal in Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals. The 29-year-old Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island native currently leads the UHL with a .923 SPCT and ranks in the league's top five with a 2.80 GAA. Dunn was selected a UHL Goaltender of the Week for Week 11 (December 29, 2003 - January 4, 2004).
