Boston Cannons News Release

BOSTON, MA - Friday, June 6, 2008 - The Boston Cannons (1-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired midfielder AJ Shannon from the Rochester Rattlers in exchange for a third-round draft selection in the 2009 MLL Supplemental Draft, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today.

"This was an opportunity to get a veteran lefty midfielder," said Head Coach Bill Daye. "He can shoot two-pointers, stretch the defense and just give us a different look and provide different match-ups for us."

Shannon, 27, has been a member of the Rattlers team since 2005 and has appeared in 33 games, recording 56 goals and 20 assists for 76 points. The 6-0, 213-pound native of Whitby, Ontario, was named to the MLL Young Guns All-Star Team in 2005 and ranked third in scoring on the Rattlers in 2004 with 29 goals and seven assists in 12 games played. His 29 goals in 2004 were good for a top 10 ranking in the league.

Originally selected by the New Jersey Pride in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2003 MLL Collegiate Draft, Shannon played in 10 games for the Pride during his rookie season and collected 10 goals.

A 2003 graduate of the University of Virginia, Shannon led his team to a NCAA Division-I Championship during his senior season, in addition to ACC Championships in 2000 and 2003. A two-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American and an All-ACC Tournament Team member in 2002 and 2003, Shannon finished his collegiate career with 119 points (90-29=119) in 61 games. Shannon served as the Cavaliers' team captain as a senior in 2003.

The Cannons will return to action when they travel to Yurcak Field to take on the New Jersey Pride on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 PM. The game will air live in the New England area on CN8.

Cannons Flex Packs and individual game tickets are on sale now. The Cannons offer outstanding games and entertainment perfect for families, corporate outings and groups of friends.
