In September 2016, the Boston Cannons Foundation Inc. was officially formed and launched to the public. The mission of the Boston Cannons Foundation is to dedicate and provide resources and programs that are focused on improving the health, education, and welfare of children and families across New England. Our goal is to bring the mindset and core attributes of the game of lacrosse, Cannons current players, alumni, and coaches into all Cannons Foundation programming.
It's been a busy fall for the Cannons Foundation; we hosted our inaugural fundraising event on October 6th, with a charity golf outing at the Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA. With more than 100 golfers and sponsor participants, the event raised $25,000 for Boston Children's Hospital. On October 16th, we presented the $25,000 donation to Boston Children's Hospital with a special ceremony at the hospital.
On November 9th, we supported MetroLacrosse for their annual MVP Gala Event with a $10,000 donation. Founded in 2000, MetroLacrosse is a local nonprofit dedicated to fostering character development and healthy life choices among Boston's urban youth through the sport of lacrosse. At the Gala, Boston Cannons Midfielder, Josh Hawkins was recognized for his volunteerism and dedication to program development at MetroLacrosse in 2016. It was a very exciting night for the Cannons Foundation, MetroLacrosse and the 400 guests in attendance.
As we near the end of 2016 and look ahead to 2017, the Boston Cannons Foundation is already targeting new initiatives for the upcoming year. To kick off our fundraising efforts for 2017 programming, we are introducing our inaugural "End of Year Giving Campaign" by asking members of the Cannons family, Cannons fans and the greater New England lacrosse community to help us achieve our goals of raising $20,000 by the end of 2016. Funds raised from the "End of the Year Giving Campaign" will support our Cannons Foundation Community Service Day in the Spring of 2017.
Financial donations are tax deductible (Tax ID #81-2701165) and can make all the difference when it comes to what we can do for the children and families of New England.
